The brain is the control center of your body. It’s the part of the nervous system which also includes spinal cord and a vast network of nerves and neurons. Together the nervous system controls everything from the senses to the muscles throughout the body of a human. When your brain is damaged it can affect many different things from your memory, your sensation, and even your personality. Brain disorder includes any condition or disability that affects your brain.

Various types of Brain Disorders

Brain Injuries

Brain injury is often caused by a blunt trauma. It can damage the brain tissue, neurons, and nerves. It can affect your brain’s ability to communicate with the rest of your body. Brain injury includes:

  • hematomas
  • blood clot
  • contusions or bruising of brain tissue
  • Swelling inside the skull
  • Concussions
  • Strokes

Symptoms will include:

  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Speech difficulty
  • Bleeding from ear
  • Numbness
  • Paralysis
  • Memory loss
  • Problems with concentration

Depending on the type of injury, the treatment may include medication, rehabilitation or brain surgery. Many people who have suffered with brain injury will need surgery to repair the damaged tissue or to relieve the pressure. People who are suffering from minor brain injury may not need any kind of treatment beyond pain medication by doctors. For rehabilitation the doctors might suggest physical theory, speech and language therapy and psychiatry.

Brain Tumors

Sometimes the tumors that develop in the brain are very dangerous. They are called primary brain tumors. Sometimes tumor somewhere else in the body spreads to brain this is a secondary tumor. A brain tumor can either be malignant that is cancerous or benign that is noncancerous. The main symptoms of brain tumor are:

  • Headaches
  • Seizures
  • Numbness or tingling in your arms and legs
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Change in personality
  • Difficulty in balancing

The type of treatment you will receive will depend on many different factors like size of the tumor, age, and your overall health. The treatment could be Surgery, chemotherapy or radiation.

Neurodegenerative disease

Neurodegenerative disease causes your brain and nerves to deteriorate over the time period. They can change the personality and cause confusion. They can also destroy your brain’s tissue and nerves. Some disease like Alzheimer’s disease develops with the age. It slowly impairs the memory and thought process. Other disease is genetic and begins at the early age. Some neurodegenerative disease includes:

  • Huntington’s disease
  • amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • all forms of dementia

Symptoms of this neurodegenerative disease include:

  • Memory loss
  • Forgetfulness
  • Anxiety
  • Agitation
  • Mood change

These diseases cause permanent damage or symptoms that get worst as the disease progresses. There is no cure for the degenerative disease but treatment can still help. Treatment for the disease can reduce symptoms and maintain the quality of life. Treatment often involves the use of medication to control the symptoms.
